And so it begins....

I'm so MIA on this blog and i keep saying ill post more but i dont get to it! There's been a few cool things that have been goin' on. I've been super busy at work since it is crunch time and we should be releasing Globworld in the first 2 weeks of December. It's pretty exciting and i cant wait to show people what i've been working on since feb.

In other big news, the Christmas Carol came out in theaters which is pretty exciting! You can find my name in the credits under the Motion Capture Artists!! yaaaay! (Rehana Khan) for those of u who don't know my name. I also want to congratulate those who worked on it cuz they did an amaaazziinng job on it! It's cool being able to see your name in credits along with many other people you know. It definitely feels like a good accomplishment! :D

I also recently started taking this toy modification course at 1AM and i get to mess around with Munny's!!

I always wanted to try and paint a Munny since I've seen artists do some cool things with it but i couldn't afford it at the time. In this class we were given a small-med sized Munny ($10) to work on. At first i thought it would be too small and went and bought the next bigger sized one but i think it would be better to practice on this first before painting and messing up a bigger munny :P

And so it begins...... haha

Ill post up my progress as i go.

Comic/ Graphic Novel time!!

Ok. I'm gonna do it. I'm going to do a comic book/ graphic novel and show it off to APE Con. I wish it was as easy as i just made it sound haha. But really. I'm gonna DO IT! I'm writing out a script and storyline for a story i came up a while ago with my characters TJ and Skweek.

I'm gonna do this! Honestly tho, i don't know where to start. Like i know the process but i want ppl to look at it or read it or like it. It's not like i have a fan base. I'll just be coming out of nowhere and handing random publishers and saying here look at this!

I once was gonna work with my friend Eric on a web comic idea that he had that i hella liked called Plastic Sword Heroes. It was Genious! This was when i was working at Seattles Best Coffee but school got in the way then i had to start work and then i met my bf and i always have some family thing to do so everything.. basically life, got in the way!! I'm dedicated to make this work this time. And I can always pick up where i left off with Eric's idea :P Eric if you read this we should collab sometime :)

So for those who dont know what TJ & Skweek is about... It's about a kid (TJ) who has a stuffed animal monkey (Skweek) and they're adventures in fighting the monsters under his bed and closet. I don't see it as being a kiddy comic. I actually see it as dark . While TJ and Skweek have their adventures discovering the world underneath his bed and inside his closet, there's something evil brewing. An evil monster decides to go against the rules with human contact for his own evil purposes. To take over both monster and human world. Of course there's more but you'll just have to check it out for yourselves!

I wanted this to be geared towards both adults and kids.

I'll be doing revised sketches of TJ and Skweek and post them up very soon. More concepting, more monster sketches (which should be uber fun)! It would be a great chance for me to practice my environment concepting skills (which i have very little of :P)

You can check out old and newer concepts of TJ and skweek that i've had. Of course ill be re-drawing a lot of this stuff! It's been a while. (www.khanart.com)

Ill post some sketches real soon!

Doodle self portrait

I'm trying to get in the habit of constantly sketching or drawing. Since i got into IMD.. and outta there and then working at a new place.. my will to draw has gotten.. less sadly :( So only thing you can do is force it and hopefully it will come back!

So when nothing comes to mind to draw.. draw yourself! and that's what i did :)

Check it out!

I didn't know if I liked the colored version. 'Cuz the colored version looks less like me. But it was good practice. I learned more about color in my color theory class and why not mess with it? I'm sure none of my colors are correct but I guess this is the first time I let myself go free with colors. I used to just try brown and peach for skintone.

I'm trying to work with the one a day drawing/ sketch but everytime i tell myself i'll do it i end up not drawing at all. I know it could be simple 'cuz a sketch doesn't have to be extravagant. I see people on deviantart do "one a day" pieces where they draw whatever and paint. I NEED to do that!! I wish i could hire like a drill sargeant to scare me into drawing and painting insanely lol.

Let's see what i post up the next few days ;)

Pin Up Girl painting 2 + doodle

Here is an update on the painting i was working on. I was finally able to upload the better quality pix off my camera!

It's still being worked on.. im trying to do little by little any chance i can get. Im happy with how the drawing came out.. i just hope the painting looks good too! It looks better in person than in pictures :P I didnt have great lighting. I also have a habit of taking progress pictures with my schtuff ;)

The assignment was to use a color and its compliment. 2 colors and its compliment was an option but they would have to be next to each other on the color wheel. For example.. i chose yellow and its compliment violet, and yellow-orange and its compliment blue-violet. I can also use black and white to mix with.

So thats that.. ill post up the updates as i go :)

I also did this quick doodle at work. My bf said the funniest random thing to me and it sparked a drawing :) too cuuute!!

It makes me happeh! :D

Mother's Day!

I made a cake for all mothers on mother's day. Well not ALL lol. On mother's day the family gets together to celebrate at a park or someone's house. Then we exchange gifts, etc. This year i decided to make a cake (no suprise there). And i wanted to make something yummy and cool looking. I found this recipe online for a rainbow cake (Conversations with a cupcake) -or-

----------

Bow in the Clouds Six Stack Cake
Coming out of the oven, the combined smell of each layers fruity flavors from will make you wonder if you've just created a dessert version of Fruit Loops. Fear not. Though the wild colors will appeal to even the tinsiest tasters, adults will adore the subtle fresh flavors of orange zest, lemon, lime and picked berries. As the host, you'll get far.too.many kicks from arriving at the table with a crisp, white-frosted cake then cutting into it to reveal a full spectrum of surprise!
*
2 boxes white cake mix
6 eggs
1 c. water
2/3 c. oil
1/2 c. raspberries
Zest of 1 orange + 2 T. juice
Zest of 1 lemon + 2 T. juice
Zest of 1 lime + 2 T. juice
1/2 c. blueberries
1/2 c. blackberries
Wilton Icing colors in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple
*
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, water, and oil together. Scoop 1 cup of batter into six small bowls. In the first bowl, mix raspberries and 1/4 tsp. red coloring. In the second bowl, mix orange zest and juice, and 1/2 tsp. orange coloring. In the third bowl, mix lemon zest and juice and 1/4 tsp. yellow coloring. In the fourth bowl, mix lime zest and juice and 1/4 tsp. green coloring. In the fifth bowl, mix blueberries and 1/4 tsp. blue coloring. In the sixth bowl, mix blackberries and 1/4 tsp. purple coloring.
*
Prepare six 8 inch cake pans by greasing and flouring each generously. Using a spatula, spoon and spread each color of batter into its own cake pan. Bake in an oven, preheated to 350 degrees for 17-20 minutes, or until tops spring back when touched lightly. Allow to cool completely. Frost with White Chocolate Frosting.
*
Billowed White Chocolate Frosting
You're going to want to lick the bowl, the spoon, the cake. Do try to restrain yourself.
*
1 c. butter, softened
1 bag white chocolate chips
3 lbs. powdered sugar
1/2 to 1 full cup milk
*
In a large bowl, microwave white chips until melted. Immediately beat in butter until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Makes enough frosting to ice between each layer of cake, and around the outside of the cake.

Everyone LOVED it!! :D Check out the pix/ process :

The End result

Yeah it was really good :)

Pin Up Girl painting

Another class assignment! So for this assignment i am to paint something (anything) only using 2 colors on the color wheel that are next to each other and their compliments. I can use white and black to mix in too. So while most people did abstract things and such. I decided to do something cool and the first thing that came to my mind was a woman from the 1800's. I dont know why but it did so i went with it! I drew out a few thumbnails and i wanted her to be in those nice big gowns holding a pretty umbrella. A guy in my class had a graffiti book and on the page he was on there was a devil pinup girl and it gave me another idea. To make the 1800's girl pinup style!

Here are some progress shots.. It's a work in progress. Ill post up updates as i finish up. Sorry the pix are crappy quality. i took them with my phone with low lighting. Better pictures to be posted soon!

The last one is a colored thumbnail so i would know what color to use where.

Check back soon for more progress!

Oil Painting 2

Finally... ART!! lol. So i had to paint some lemons.. and here is the start.

I took a photo ref here:

Then i went in and blocked it in here:

and thats what i have so far but ill be posting the progress with that. :P lol.

More Cakes!!

Man this is starting to look more like a baking/ cake blog rather than an art blog.. Baking can be an art too... right? lol. Well i have been drawing and creating... I just can't show to ya because its not my property.. or i don't have the rights yet.. u know what i mean. Til then ill just post up Cakes and Photography. :D

So I have made 2 nice cakes one i did for my bf's birthday in Feb which is a Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting (he requested it) and blueberries on top. I have a hard time working with fruit because they give off water/ juice when i stick the cake in the fridge. And i want fresh fruits.. not glazed fruits. And blueberries are the only fruits i've worked with that don't give off the juice stuff.

Here's are a few pix!

Thennn... (no im not done yet lol) I took this class in SF called BakingArts which has a variety of different classes from chocolate molten cakes to souffles to layered cakes. And i took their topsy turvy cake class and came out walking with this!! Unfortunately i didn't take a picture of it before i drove home so i only have the pictures of what it looked like after the drive home :( The top part fell off so its even more crooked than its supposed to be :P The flowers are done in Fondant and so is pretty much everything on the outside. The inside is a Chocolate cake with buttercream frosting! YUM. My design and neatness could have been better but i was running out of time. But the next topsy turvy cake i do.. It will rock i promise :P

Caaakkeetoowwn!!

So I forgot to post up the bigger cake I baked for my uncles wedding party!! It's a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. It looked awesome..! Unfortunately I didnt get a chance to have some cuz I had a huge headache and didn't have an appetite for anything :( But at least i managed to snap some pix of the yummy cake!

*droooll* i love red velvet!! LOVE IT!! *mouth watering* I had a hard time looking for white chocolate blocks. I thought Trader Joe's would have them bc I do remember seeing them there. But I couldn't find them anywhere local. And i didn't want to rely on a hershey's white chocolate bar. So i just bought a block of milk chocolate. The fruits look so mouthwatering good tho :) Apparently people loved it at the party and were really impressed! I wish I tasted it. Maybe next time :)
