Wait a sec.....

Am I actually updating and posting on this blog..? Holy cow! Yes i am >_<

LOL annyyhooo here are some screenshots of the work in progress i have for the bellydancer im working on.

Close up.

Ive never tried this technique before. Where u paint the tones in black and white first when go in a new layer and change the layer settings to color. and paint your colors on them. Then build up from there etc. She's not as realistic as i want her to be but I'm workin' on it. Still have a ton of detailing and rendering to do. I didnt have the image at a tilt angle before but i just changed that since the previous one looked a little boring.

So that is that!

Progress...

She's purty hot ain't she?

Work in progress shot! Still slapping on colors on her. Then doing orthographic illustrations so i can start modeling her :)

Motorcycle Helmet... and a silver Sharpie!!

I forgot to post pictures of the motorcycle helmet I did art on! My bf asked me if I could draw a fantastic illustration on his helmet with a silver sharpie and to go crazy with it.. and so I did.. heh heh heh... >:)

I was in a rush to do it bc I wanted to surprise him. So I believe I finished it within 10 hours.. all Sharpie! :D

He sparked me with the ideas since he requested a tiger on one side and a wolf on the other (what can I say he's my muse.. :B)..

He clear coated it with a special clear coat that doesn't have alcohol in it (since alcohol makes sharpie ink run).. and voila!!!

So yesterday I went and bought a helmet for the heck of it.. well for myself, just in case I'll ever need one to ride with him, and am gonna paint the heck out of it! I'm thinking maybe acrylic paint on it. I'd use airbrush if I had an airbrush machine and knew how to do it. I'll just have to wait around til my bday comes ;)

UPDATE/EDIT: For a more updated look/ photos of this helmet click here!

Jedi Training.

So I had to do a test for a company that I applied to. It was a UX Illustrator position. First of all........... I'm not a user interface person or user experience person. But a recruiter pointed me to the position and thought hey why not apply. The company itself is a successful one that works on award winning iPhone apps. So eh, why not. They gave me simple instructions to the test, to re-create Minesweeper (i totally loved the game for the longest time!). To try and make the plain grey colored blocks all modern and cool looking. I took a shot at it and heres what i did!

I felt pretty proud of myself cuz I did something.. I've never done before. I took a shot at something outside the box. And u know what.. if felt fullfilling. Now i could say i know how to. I didnt look up tutorials on the template itself. I just looked at the actual Minesweeper game and created what i saw but my own brainstormed version. Then i looked up tutorials for making the buttons. :B

Unfortunately I didn't get the position, BUT i learned something new and that was worth it. I also realized how much extra time i could give myself a night to work on anything art related. I'm determined to learn MOOAARR!! hehe.

Maybe I can pretend I'm apply to... ohhhhh lets say.. a matte painting position!! Then I can make up a test for myself and do it within a day or something. OOOO IDEA RIGHT THERE! :D

(I'm always gonna have to find ways to force myself to draw!) :B

I think someone out there should give me candy for everytime I pump out an art piece! Yes, thats a great idea.... Someone.. do it.

Doomy Doomy Doom

I have kind of a hard time keepin' this blog up to date! Well it's also bc i haven't been doing much of my own personal art that I can post up! BUT I've had ideas and goals that I plan on setting by the end of summer! I've made somewhat of a summer bucketlist... but geared towards my art! I had this cool idea to broadcast myself drawing an illustration from red pencil sketch to inked. It's a great way to motivate myself to get more personal work out there! Besides, I have no choice but to draw.. since I'm looking out for a new jobby. Yes, that's right.. I think I'm ready for the next new step in my life, where I am more challenged to illustrate and model bigger and better things... instead of the kiddy stuff..

With that here's a preview of a new illustration I'm working on..! :)

Sorry the quality ain't amaaazing. I took it with my phone. Speaking of phones...... I CANT WAIT TO GET MY IPHONE 4 IN THE MAIL SOON! :D WHOO!

Oil Painting Commission.. sorta.

My bf requested an oil painting as a present for him mom. And I'm not like a crazy painter but I do remember when I did take classes I absolutely loved oil painting. Since I had to drop the class (lol) I couldn't finish up on the learning. So I had to turn to...... BOB ROSS!! Yes that's right... The one and only. I downloaded like 10 seasons of his Joy of Painting videos and watched them while working. I learned so much from him and damn does he make everything look so simple! And the fact that he was able to paint a full amazing picture in an hour was freaking fantastic. I did research on him because really, i didn't know too much about him. I just remember waiting for Barney and they would be playing his show... yes I watched Barney and only the cool kids watched Barney so shush. :P It turned out he was in the military and his job was to yell all day. And painting took him away from all the anger and the yelling and the tense environment. He's awesome. That's all I can say. :)

So I'll post up the progress pix as soon as I save them onto my computer.. but here's a snapshot from my phone of what it looks like so far..

I worked on this for a good 4 hours. I first drew out everything. Oh btw, this is going to be a painting of an Islamic Mosque; Masjid Al- Nabawi. It's a famous mosque and we muslims know it as the Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) Mosque. Which u can see here:

Obviously i have ways to go before it looks anything remotely close to this reference picture :P

I wanted to give the sky a sunset cuz sunsets are awesome!

Thank you Bob Ross for teaching me to paint those happy clouds!

UPDATE: (May 25, 2010)

So i finished the painting and i had to do it fast since i was under a deadline. If i had a little more time i think id improve a few things here and there. But here are some snaps of the paintinnggg!! (They were color adjusted to capture the right colors painted since the pix i took made it look a little washed out.)

Some detail shots of the pillars..

I think i pulled 2 all nighters back to back. maybe got in 2 hours of rest in between. Oh man... i forgot how hard all nighters are without the aid of coffee or energy drinks!

I'm definitely motivated to paint more with oils. I already have another idea for my next painting.. stay tuned!

And so it begins....

I'm so MIA on this blog and i keep saying ill post more but i dont get to it! There's been a few cool things that have been goin' on. I've been super busy at work since it is crunch time and we should be releasing Globworld in the first 2 weeks of December. It's pretty exciting and i cant wait to show people what i've been working on since feb.

In other big news, the Christmas Carol came out in theaters which is pretty exciting! You can find my name in the credits under the Motion Capture Artists!! yaaaay! (Rehana Khan) for those of u who don't know my name. I also want to congratulate those who worked on it cuz they did an amaaazziinng job on it! It's cool being able to see your name in credits along with many other people you know. It definitely feels like a good accomplishment! :D

I also recently started taking this toy modification course at 1AM and i get to mess around with Munny's!!

I always wanted to try and paint a Munny since I've seen artists do some cool things with it but i couldn't afford it at the time. In this class we were given a small-med sized Munny ($10) to work on. At first i thought it would be too small and went and bought the next bigger sized one but i think it would be better to practice on this first before painting and messing up a bigger munny :P

And so it begins...... haha

Ill post up my progress as i go.

Comic/ Graphic Novel time!!

Ok. I'm gonna do it. I'm going to do a comic book/ graphic novel and show it off to APE Con. I wish it was as easy as i just made it sound haha. But really. I'm gonna DO IT! I'm writing out a script and storyline for a story i came up a while ago with my characters TJ and Skweek.

I'm gonna do this! Honestly tho, i don't know where to start. Like i know the process but i want ppl to look at it or read it or like it. It's not like i have a fan base. I'll just be coming out of nowhere and handing random publishers and saying here look at this!

I once was gonna work with my friend Eric on a web comic idea that he had that i hella liked called Plastic Sword Heroes. It was Genious! This was when i was working at Seattles Best Coffee but school got in the way then i had to start work and then i met my bf and i always have some family thing to do so everything.. basically life, got in the way!! I'm dedicated to make this work this time. And I can always pick up where i left off with Eric's idea :P Eric if you read this we should collab sometime :)

So for those who dont know what TJ & Skweek is about... It's about a kid (TJ) who has a stuffed animal monkey (Skweek) and they're adventures in fighting the monsters under his bed and closet. I don't see it as being a kiddy comic. I actually see it as dark . While TJ and Skweek have their adventures discovering the world underneath his bed and inside his closet, there's something evil brewing. An evil monster decides to go against the rules with human contact for his own evil purposes. To take over both monster and human world. Of course there's more but you'll just have to check it out for yourselves!

I wanted this to be geared towards both adults and kids.

I'll be doing revised sketches of TJ and Skweek and post them up very soon. More concepting, more monster sketches (which should be uber fun)! It would be a great chance for me to practice my environment concepting skills (which i have very little of :P)

You can check out old and newer concepts of TJ and skweek that i've had. Of course ill be re-drawing a lot of this stuff! It's been a while. (www.khanart.com)

Ill post some sketches real soon!

Doodle self portrait

I'm trying to get in the habit of constantly sketching or drawing. Since i got into IMD.. and outta there and then working at a new place.. my will to draw has gotten.. less sadly :( So only thing you can do is force it and hopefully it will come back!

So when nothing comes to mind to draw.. draw yourself! and that's what i did :)

Check it out!

I didn't know if I liked the colored version. 'Cuz the colored version looks less like me. But it was good practice. I learned more about color in my color theory class and why not mess with it? I'm sure none of my colors are correct but I guess this is the first time I let myself go free with colors. I used to just try brown and peach for skintone.

I'm trying to work with the one a day drawing/ sketch but everytime i tell myself i'll do it i end up not drawing at all. I know it could be simple 'cuz a sketch doesn't have to be extravagant. I see people on deviantart do "one a day" pieces where they draw whatever and paint. I NEED to do that!! I wish i could hire like a drill sargeant to scare me into drawing and painting insanely lol.

Let's see what i post up the next few days ;)

Pin Up Girl painting 2 + doodle

Here is an update on the painting i was working on. I was finally able to upload the better quality pix off my camera!

It's still being worked on.. im trying to do little by little any chance i can get. Im happy with how the drawing came out.. i just hope the painting looks good too! It looks better in person than in pictures :P I didnt have great lighting. I also have a habit of taking progress pictures with my schtuff ;)

The assignment was to use a color and its compliment. 2 colors and its compliment was an option but they would have to be next to each other on the color wheel. For example.. i chose yellow and its compliment violet, and yellow-orange and its compliment blue-violet. I can also use black and white to mix with.

So thats that.. ill post up the updates as i go :)

I also did this quick doodle at work. My bf said the funniest random thing to me and it sparked a drawing :) too cuuute!!

It makes me happeh! :D

Mother's Day!

I made a cake for all mothers on mother's day. Well not ALL lol. On mother's day the family gets together to celebrate at a park or someone's house. Then we exchange gifts, etc. This year i decided to make a cake (no suprise there). And i wanted to make something yummy and cool looking. I found this recipe online for a rainbow cake (Conversations with a cupcake) -or-

----------

Bow in the Clouds Six Stack Cake
Coming out of the oven, the combined smell of each layers fruity flavors from will make you wonder if you've just created a dessert version of Fruit Loops. Fear not. Though the wild colors will appeal to even the tinsiest tasters, adults will adore the subtle fresh flavors of orange zest, lemon, lime and picked berries. As the host, you'll get far.too.many kicks from arriving at the table with a crisp, white-frosted cake then cutting into it to reveal a full spectrum of surprise!
*
2 boxes white cake mix
6 eggs
1 c. water
2/3 c. oil
1/2 c. raspberries
Zest of 1 orange + 2 T. juice
Zest of 1 lemon + 2 T. juice
Zest of 1 lime + 2 T. juice
1/2 c. blueberries
1/2 c. blackberries
Wilton Icing colors in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple
*
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, water, and oil together. Scoop 1 cup of batter into six small bowls. In the first bowl, mix raspberries and 1/4 tsp. red coloring. In the second bowl, mix orange zest and juice, and 1/2 tsp. orange coloring. In the third bowl, mix lemon zest and juice and 1/4 tsp. yellow coloring. In the fourth bowl, mix lime zest and juice and 1/4 tsp. green coloring. In the fifth bowl, mix blueberries and 1/4 tsp. blue coloring. In the sixth bowl, mix blackberries and 1/4 tsp. purple coloring.
*
Prepare six 8 inch cake pans by greasing and flouring each generously. Using a spatula, spoon and spread each color of batter into its own cake pan. Bake in an oven, preheated to 350 degrees for 17-20 minutes, or until tops spring back when touched lightly. Allow to cool completely. Frost with White Chocolate Frosting.
*
Billowed White Chocolate Frosting
You're going to want to lick the bowl, the spoon, the cake. Do try to restrain yourself.
*
1 c. butter, softened
1 bag white chocolate chips
3 lbs. powdered sugar
1/2 to 1 full cup milk
*
In a large bowl, microwave white chips until melted. Immediately beat in butter until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Makes enough frosting to ice between each layer of cake, and around the outside of the cake.

Everyone LOVED it!! :D Check out the pix/ process :
